Getty Images is an American stock photo agency, with headquarters in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is a supplier of stock images for business and consumers with an archive of 80 million still images and illustrations and more than 50,000 hours of stock film footage.
In 1995 Mark Getty founded Getty images with co founder Jonathan Klein. Mark Getty is the companies chairman and in 1997 Getty Communication (as it was previously called) merged with PhotoDisc to form Getty Images. From then Getty images entered partnership with AFP (Agence France-Presse) to market each others images. Another milestone for Getty Images is when they acquired the Micheal Ochs Archives in 2007 this was extremely important as the archives where considered as ‘the premier source of musical photography’ according to the New York Times.
The company is now said to have an archive that includes over eighty million stills.
